Genesee Academy (GA) is a Pre-k through 12th grade NCA Accredited Private IB Islamic School. The school was established in 1995, with an enrollment of 47, and has grown many folds since then. GA is proud to be a home for more than 25 nationalities and ethnic backgrounds.
According to The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) & the US Census Bureau: “45.7% of school aged children are considered culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD). They will be the majority in schools by 2030 or sooner.” Each child is unique in their learning and in how they understand the way the world works around them - and with them. During early childhood learning interactions can be looked at as CASE:
Learning to speak with Clarity (C) in creating high expectations with support, remaining consistent, and realizing these expectations are a part of the fabric in understanding the student’s diverse background and culture.
Assess (A) each student. Familiarizing oneself with each student allows the educator to diversify learning methods in the classroom.
Be Specific (S). Realizing that content can be understood in many different ways, according to the students’ experiences and background - make all else familiar allowing the student to focus on the desired content in question.
Engage and Encourage (E) students to be a part of the learning experience. Inclusion and affirmation allow young learners the self confidence they need to grow into their future learning experiences.
